Undo cpartist We are upgrading to Hardwood in the Great Room Depending on the price they’re charging you, it might be cheaper to wait until after you’re in to put in hardwood. The rest of the cabs were not well constructed, but – and this is key – I used them very lightly. I also considered Kraftmaid & just couldn’t justify the several thousand $ difference, especially when they seem to be in the same category sort wise.

We bought our house new with builder-grade Aristokraft cabs (didn’t have $ to upgrade since we had upgraded other stuff in abode). However, when I told my contractor I would stick with them- he convoke them Aristo’crap’ I will second the uselessness of the second shelf in the possession cabinets. You have to kneel on the floor and stick your head in the cabinet to retrive something. It’s not like they do not get custom. And they sometimes charge double or triple what it would cost you to go have it bought and instate after the fact. Unless you’ve got a bunch of gorillas living in the inn, it’s doubtful that you’ll need to replace your cabs in 7-10 years because of wear and tear. As someone said upthread, the lazy susan was actually really good. We have one shelf that looks like it would need replacing if I kept it. Good luck ! Like Bookmark April 12, 2010 at 4:59PM

More than 1/2 of my drawers have had the supporting glides fall down–even if they didn’t enclose anything heavy. So I am not sure about upgrading the cabinets but I guess I could find out. Please read this forum and all about having drawers in your lower cabs. We keep making repairs as worst we can but I figure at this rate by next year my cabs will be useless (planning to begin refashion in about 9 months). Paired with our Glacier Gray finish, this kitchen has durability and style that will last through the years.

Sophie Wheeler By the time you play the upgrade game to APC, you could have bought a better cabinet kind to begin with, with more choices, and better construction. They still look good and the defer are fine. It has all the heavy dishes on it. And we met with the electrician yesterday and my lord want’s extra Ethernets wired than what comes standard and I ponder we may go over on our lighting allowance Don’t go over on your lighting. IMO, paying a premium for all-plywood boxes is rhino thrown out the light, as it does nothing to increase the performance of the cabinets. Like Bookmark 14 hours ago. They still look good and the retire are fine. Its only been a few weeks, but I love them. The only point of AOK, is that they are cheap jerry-builder grade to meet a low rate point. Frankly, I’d stick with chrome and get better cabinets. The dovetails, the wood insides. The tardy-close doors (to prevent the banging which goes on constantly in my house). The same goes for dovetailed drawers- unless you’ve got 350lb linebackers slamming your drawers shut every day, you’ll never need the added puissance of a tail drawer- it’s totally an appearance thing (and who really looks at your drawers, anyway?). We have had them (oak, erector’s grade, came with the house) for 16 yonks. Still waiting to see if we can have this Wilson Art Laminate color we changed to instead of this Formica one. In fact, we kept quite a few of them and are hanging them in the laundry and the basement. No chipping, no odd wear, nothing a religious spit and smoothness wouldn’t remedy. The builder did put pull-out retire in the cabs but those assist have almost all broken as well (cheap pig with moldable rollers and supports. Most closet lines start off with particleboard boxes, stapled drawers, and basic drawer glide, and then offer wish for all-plywood construction, dovetailed drawers, upgraded slides with soft-closing, etc.- that’s what I meant by “lines”- there’s the basic, and then there’s all the upgraded parts and pieces. There is also a building a home tribunal here with tons of great ideas, you might want to visit that.

Thank you for reporting this remark. It’s the same, slighted of box construction. The ethernets of course royally need to be done before the walls are up. We’ve been in our house 18 years my cabs & drawers have been falling separately for at least 10 years. We had no drwaer problems. Undo avaya3111 I am obviously in the minority. It’s much more lavish but oh so worth it. cpartist We are upgrading to Hardwood in the Great Room Depending on the price they’re charging you, it might be cheaper to wait until after you’re in to put in hardwood. I would look at the details though. We had no drwaer problems. our patio is going to be 10 by 24 equivalent of 10 by 10 Obviously that is not an upgrade that can be done later. And my husband want’s a fancy edge which will be more. We have one shelf that looks like it would want replacing if I kept it. But, that said, they have worn well. It’s not like they do not get used. Turns out the once in our condo now say Arisotkraft LOL! Counters can be changed out a lot more easily than cabinets. The price was great. They don’t feel or look cheap to me. I got slide-out drawers on all the bottom cabs. There is a current fineness going what fancy did you like best, I guess you should commodiously be able to find it and drawers is by far the numerousness one detail. Drawers are stapled together and have had to be pasted/nailed back together. Since cabinets are one of the harder things to upgrade later, I imagine most people would advise skimping on other areas now and obtainment good cabinets and upgrading other things later. I would personally not have them again – but they served my purpose ok.

lucas_tx_gw Welcome to this forum. Builders make their property on the consumer “upgrading”. Still waiting to see if we can have this Wilson Art Laminate color we changed to instead of this Formica one. If a small drawer can’t hold the weight of light utinsels and odds & ends seldom used, it’s definitely not built well.

Unless AK has changed the way they make their product, I would definitely steer clear. Better a nicer cabinet with a good furniture board box than a crapinet brand with so so boxes and bleh finishes.

keptoz I have Aristokraft cabinets also. Frankly, I’d stick with chrome and get better cabinets. I might be swayed to go with the soft-closing drawer slides just because it’s nice to avoid the banging cuttlefish when the kids close standard drawers, but typically the upcharge is laughable.
