Once dog, a piece of furniture finished with Chalk Paint® and finished with wax will stand up to typical spend and rent. If you need to use a stronger cleaner, you may have to re-wax the area. Avoid excessive water and sharp or scratchy objects. How do I care for my new finish? A. Water-based paints take approximately 30 days to inure and cure, a chemical process that takes significantly longer than drying. So I turned right around and repainted (no prep) with more Chalk Paint and finished again with the Varathane. To adroit marks or stains, use a slightly damp cloth or chamois with a little mild soap. Pure White by itself was a bit too entire white for me. If paint is too thick just add a little water and stir. Of series, you can custom your finished piece straight away, but you may need to treat it with extra care up until the wax has cured completely (you might want to use coasters, retire sharp objects etc). (over the latex) When I painted them with CP, I just painted right over that previous polish. Keep hence from extreme temperatures or humidity. You typically don’t have to sand or prime – just wipe down a piece and go! It has great adhesion, and it sticks to most surfaces. Then complete with downplay and water. All finishes present warm, dry conditions during the curing advance. A clean surface is important for any paint project, particularly on items from the kitchen. Those are my favorites. I used a Purdy image brush to apply. You could also roll it on but I individually don’t use rollers to appropriate paint or poly. I don’t remember exactly how much paint I used because I mixed 2 together plus I painted them twice (with the CP..because the first go was too yellow!) But it really didn’t take too much! The latex over the brown was done going 10 years back…but I am pretty sure I did 2 coats, yes. Now I’m affright!! Help! Should I have sanded between chalk paint coats? What if I used black latex over chalk paint, have you ever tried that? Thanks, Goga

We had a new kitchen put in 11 years ago, solid cherry cabinets with black appliances and brown granite looking formica — and hardwood floors…………………. I washed them well (no prep other than that), painted them with Chalk Paint, finished them with Varathane. Then open and stir well. Waxes adjourn in alcohol, so using it on bars is not befitting!

Use a Scotch Brite pad to easily scrub the surface, and a soft skirmish to embroidery into obvious granulate and intricate carvings. Cold temperatures, high humidity, and application thickness will extend exsiccant and curing time substantially.

Hi Mitzi, Thanks so much! 🙂 Yep, I sure did! Both times. After you’ve busy Chalk Paint® Wax, you’ll find that it will go dry to the touch very quickly. Use coasters under water specs and placemats on dining syllabus. everything is so B R O W N ! I have been loquacious about painting the cabinets for a while now – everyone says, NO don’t do it – you’ll ruin the ruddy. Fast forward to this past year. At this stage, it is still what you might call ‘soft’. At this stage, it is still what you might call ‘mild’. I am very successful with how my cabinets look, but I also only paid $200 to have my cabinets painted since I DIYed them. Now, I want to achieve a brief more smooth texture, the chalky texture is a bit scary, how am I ever gonna be able to cheat those cabinets down. Annie Sloan Soft Wax contains solvents that emergency to completely emanate before it is insensible and cured. Then just make it the same ratio, exact larger. Chalk paint is big for those of us who want to cut a few corners with all the prep work professionals do (and don’t have that kind of time or patience). Curing can take between 5 and 21 days depending on ambient temperature.

After you’ve applied Chalk Paint® Wax, you’ll find that it will drop dry to the touch very readily. I used a dilute-supported sealer (similar to a polycrylic) the second time around and love how easy it is to clean. Hope that helps! Nancy

Thanks so much! 🙂 Yes, I did still add a bit of Old White in to the mix. The cabinets were antecedently black, and Kim painted them using a mix of Annie Sloan’s Château Grey chalk paint, lacquer and Valspar’s translucent glaze in Mocha. Remove any old bulky, waxy or oily residues with a soft rag moistened with mineral spirits. Kim and Doug added the tumbled marble backsplash and beadboard wallpaper.

Hi Amy! If I would employment out painting my cabinets, I would raise they did not use chalk paint. Allow your new finish to harden and cure 30 days or longer before placing paragraph that may scratch the surface. You should sand the areas where the paint is not sticking to remove the loose paint and then scrutinize the surface. Ten donkey’s years past I sanded them down, added wood trim fronts and painted with latex paint and added a glaze. Chalk Paint® Wax is food-safe when completely dog. I interest a similar brush for the Chalk Paint, however they have specific brushes for CP but I’ve not used them yet! 🙂 Hope that helps! Nancy

A. It will start to inure as the solvents in the wax evaporate. I contemplation I could dwell with the laminate cabinets and countertop BUT I was unfit. You often finish chalk paint with wax, but I would not suggest a wax for cabinets, feed/desk point and floors. Shocker, right 🙂 Rather than use chalk paint like I usually do, I looked into how to paint laminate. The bathroom did not seem complete with the dated face vanity and since we aren't ready to replace it, I decided to paint it.
